Reflexology support for pregnancy
Maternity reflexology can be of great support to women throughout pregnancy and can promote general wellbeing.
Two randomised control trials in pregnancy
1. This trial showed that reflexology in pregnancy significantly reduced pain in labour, as well as shortening the length of the first stage of labour. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3208928/
2.This trial shows the effectiveness of using foot reflexology to improve sleep amongst post partum women.http:/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19577829
There are huge changes in hormone levels at this time as well as anxieties and concerns, feeling exhilarated and delighted. Reflexology can help to aid relaxation and de stress at this time. It can also help alleviate many of the minor disorders of pregnancy.
Most of the discomforts have disappeared at this stage though there may be sleep or anxiety issues which can be alleviated by reflexology.
Preparation for labour and delivery can be supported by reflexology at this stage in pregnancy. Treatments each week during the last few weeks can be of benefit.
